Recruiting in a remote world

March 2020 and we were down to our final stage of this year's graduate recruitment round; the assessment centre.  Plans were in place and candidates were eagerly awaiting the day to give it their best and hopefully secure a training contract.  And the rest, as they say, is history.

With the coronavirus has come many challenges; isolation, loneliness, fear, and a forced new daily life.  We have all been made to rethink and adapt our approaches to everything from a trip to the supermarket to how to carry out an audit from 300 miles away.  But if there’s one thing that as a firm we have maintained, it is our ambition and passion for growth and we cannot do that without a commitment to the training of the next generation of recruits.

So it was back to the drawing board and a rethink on how we could adapt our approach to give our candidates the best chance to demonstrate why they would be the future of Leathers.  Online meetings were arranged, schedules were drawn up and exceptional organisational skills were required, and on Tuesday we welcomed this year’s successful candidates to our first ever remote assessment centre.

It hasn’t been easy, and we’ve had a few technical hitches along the way, but the past 2 days have highlighted the resilience, agility and enthusiasm that our candidates possess.  We would like to thank each and every one of them for their hard work and participation in the remote assessment centre, we have truly been blown away by what we have seen.  May we wish them all the best of luck in the final selection process.
