Le Loop 2018 - Stage 12: Bourg-St-Maurice Les Arcs - Alpe d’Huez
There was a discussion at Breakfast this morning around the severity of today’s climbs and I think www.climbbybike.com had rated them 2,3 and 5 in the Tour, the harder news is that 1 and 4 are yet to come!
Another hot day, but I have to say I was glad to climb the Alpe as the sun was going down; the heat of the south facing climb was still noticeable.... overall an exceedingly tough day and even I am impressed with myself for having completed 3 x HC climbs.
But the story of the day has to be how even a small amount of encouragement; so:
1 Descending of the Madeline out of the corner of my eye I saw the Storey RT jersey; about 100 yards down the road I turned around and had a quick chat with Anna Kay who as well being a bit of a cycling star and riding for the Storey team, also happens to work in the same office.... I think the group was a bit surprised at my cycling menu for the day and it certainly gave me a lift!
2 Several hours later as I was descending down the barrages at the Glandon, who goes past, Anna and friends in a van this time. I think they recognised the distinctive Red Kask helmet! Don’t think they realised how quickly I ascended that nasty bump (I had suddenly realised they were watching) but what a motivator!!
So story of the day; you’ll not always realise how just a kind word here and there can be a massive motivator! Thanks Anna and Co.
