Le Loop 2018 - Stage 11: Albertville - La Rosière
There was a moment of revelation at dinner this evening; yesterday 1 Hors Categorie climb, today 2 HC climbs, and in one of those little Tour stories tomorrow has 3 HC climbs. The Montèe de Bisanne and the Col de Prè are new to the Tour; and there is no doubt that they are both tough climbs, I wasn’t alone in thinking this but one had to think there was a little Tour humour as we climbed up from Albertville on the valley road: first we turned left and ascended the Bisanne and dropped back down to the valley road and turned right and ascended the de Prè....... the reward being the stunning views of the Roselend dam/reservoir.
A short descent and the climb to the Cormet de Roselend..... followed by the longest descent and the 5% average gradient up to La Rosière..... it wasn’t the toughest climb of a day that was all about climbing with little recovery time between each climb but it was possibly the least popular as gradients having started at 1-3% ramped up to 15%, and the story of the day seems to have been the climbing at gradients in excess of 10%.
But sitting here it’s still the stunning beauty of the Alps that stand out. Today will make fantastic TV in a weeks time.
