Le Loop 2018

First there were nine. Then there were three. And now two remain.

In June and July 2018, Michael Leather and Barry James will don the lycra for a third time and participate in Le Loop 2018.  Formerly known as the Tour de Force, the charity bike ride in aid of the William Wates Memorial Trust, Le Loop follows the exact route of the Tour de France a week ahead of the professionals.  Now, Le Loop is officially affiliated with the Tour de France itself and 2018 promises to be one of the best, but one of the toughest yet.

The Beginning

In 2015 Michael Leather set out to celebrate 25 years in business by doing something ridiculous – riding the full route of the Tour de France for charity.  He somehow managed to convince 8 of his colleagues to join him at various stages.  It was a journey into the unknown, but ultimately a fantastic achievement by Michael and the team.

Our cycling website, which chronicled the challenge from start to finish is still available to view here:

The Last “Tour De Force”

In 2017, the team were back for more, a few men down, but no less determined.  Once again, Michael rode the full route, but this time only Barry and Neil Matthews had the guts to join him.  We did not know at the time, but it would be the last edition of the Tour de Force before the emergence of Le Loop for 2018; it was a privilege to be involved again.

The blogs and fundraising continued with just as much commitment, and it was all documented here:

Le Loop

And now, in 2018, only Michael and Barry remain.  Michael facing the full, brutal 2500 miles and Barry opting for a not entirely straightforward 3 days in the Pyrenees.

Hopefully we can build on the £50,000 we’ve raised for the William Wates Memorial Trust so far.  It’s an amazing charity, helping under privileged children throughout the UK, and it’s been very humbling to get the chance first hand to see how the money has helped those less fortunate than us.

Fundraising events will be happening regularly in the New Year, the donations page is on its way, Michael and Barry are hitting the turbo trainer hard and Barry will be on the look-out for more random film references to shoe-horn into his blogs…….so check back soon.

In meantime, please feel free to read about the challenge itself and the William Wates Memorial Trust:
